How to use our logo

This section gives you full guidance on sizes, exclusion zones, colourways and how to use the logo in different situations.

The Bolton at Home logo should always be used from the artwork files provided. It should never be redrawn or modified.

Our logo is the most important element of our corporate identity. It’s the visual key that represents our brand and our values.

Our logo is used on everything from signs to uniforms, vehicles to leaflets, stationery to advertisements. It helps to establish and maintain our public image and reputation.

The preferred use for the logo is to appear on a white background. It shouldn’t appear on a coloured background or on a photographic background.

If there’s no other option but to put the logo on a coloured or photographic background, it should appear within a white circle or in a white band along the bottom of a document.

For promotional items only, the logo can sit on a black background as shown opposite.

The logo is available in colour and mono versions. The colour logo should be used on all materials produced by us or where we’ve contributed resources to produce partner publications and campaigns.

If it’s not practical to use the full colour version of the logo, please use the mono version. The mono version should only be used for two colour (black and white) printed publications.

There are further guidelines in the next few pages which are specific to the logo and we ask that these be followed for consistency. These include minimum sizes for use, exclusion zones and colour specifications.

Alternative colourways

For promotional items only, the logo can sit on a black background as shown above.

If it’s not practical to use the full colour version of the logo, please use the mono version. The mono version should only be used when the only colour available for print is the colour black.

If it’s not practical to use the full colour version of the logo and the logo needs to appear on a black or coloured background, then the white version should be used.

Logo positioning and sizing

Clear space

To create maximum impact, the logo needs an area of clear space around it where no other type, photography or other logos should appear.

The grey box shows the minimum clear space to leave around the logo and is based on the height of the letter B.

Logo position

Our logo is left centric (see image below), which means it should always appear on the left-hand side of any document when used as the main brand. This also applies when the logo is within a white circle.

Logo and circle

When the logo needs to be placed on a coloured or photographic background, it should be positioned inside a white circle.

The logo must be on its own in the circle, with no other text or images. Other coloured circles may encroach onto the white circle but these should not be positioned within the logo’s exclusion zone.

When the logo is within a circle the exclusion zone still applies.

Sizing

Standard logo sizes in print 65mm for A3 documents 40mm for A4 documents 30mm for A5 documents 30mm fo DL documents

Logo size for on-screen use The minimum width at which the logo can be used at is 120 pixels at the standard screen resolution of 72dpi.

NB: If the logo is required on a photographic background and the photograph is pale, almost white in the bottom left-hand corner then the logo can sit directly on the photograph.

Misusing the logo

Keep to the rules

It’s important that the rules outlined in these guidelines are followed. This will ensure that our logo is used consistently across all our communications. Without these rules, the strength of the brand become diluted and less recognisable. Here are examples of how not to use the logo in both print and on-screen.

Do not:

  • use the logo on a photographic or coloured background without a white circle;
  • allow other elements to encroach into the logo’s safe area;
  • add other elements to the logo;
  • outline the logo, unless the production process requires it e.g. engraving;
  • apply shading, vignettes or effects to the logo;
  • devise alternative icons for inside of the ‘o’ of ‘Home’.

Third party logos

Below is the preferred logo for use whenever the Bolton at Home logo is being applied by a third party to an item for another organisation.

Where the Bolton at Home logo has been supplied to a third party for use, the sender MUST ensure proofs are returned by the third party for approval and to check that the logo is being used correctly.

Commissioned by

This is to be used when we’ve fully paid for a third party to carry out some work. All work is to be Bolton at Home branded – the nature of the branding needs to lend itself to the project and should seek to maximise exposure for our brand. All intellectual property rights are ours and this needs to be made clear at outset.

In partnership with

This should be used when we’re working with other parties to deliver a project jointly, and we’re not the lead partner.

Sponsored by

This should be used when we’re providing financial or resource support only.

Endorsed by

This should be used when we’re lending credibility to a project but not providing any support.
